Lavaman Training - Week 6
While I realize that we are well into week 7, I thought I would stick to my commitment to recap my weekly Lavaman training. I think it's hard for me to do these when I feel like I didn't do a very good job of doing what I was supposed to do. But I've said for a long time that suppose is a dirty word.
This week had so much potential. It got off to a rough start with two nights of not sleeping well and a ridiculously busy day at work on Tuesday. I have a rule about sleep and exercise. If I don't get at least 6.5 hours of sleep, I don't exercise. I need sleep and don't function well without it and I have found that stressing my body with not enough sleep and then exercising is not a good combination. So I took an extra rest day on Tuesday (not really a rest day though, I walked my 10,000 steps at work). But as you can see the middle of the week was right on point.
Wednesday was a bike day - thank goodness for studded tires because it was super icy. I probably could have taken my skates out to the bike path and been just fine.
Thursday I managed my first double workout day in several weeks. I swam in the morning and then ran in the afternoon. Looking back, that might not have been the best thing to do on a night that I was planning on staying up late because it pretty much ruined me for the rest of the week. I was tired after my swim and even more tired after my tempo interval run. I tried to take a nap before our New Year's Eve plans, but I only slept for about 15 minutes.
I woke up on Friday feeling pretty tired. My legs were pretty angry too. I managed to get out for a very half-hearted bike ride despite the fact that it was grey and raining (i.e. extremely depressing in Alaska in January). By Saturday however, I was so exhausted that I ended up taking a two hour nap after I got up and still felt tired.
Even though I told myself that I was supposed to do a long run and a long bike on the weekend...it just didn't happen. I was tired. So tired. Even though I probably should have gotten out and at least gone for a walk, I'm glad I rested.
Spoiler alert - week 7 is not going much better than week 6, but I'm working on it!
